Why the Petronella Art Studio?

The Petronella Art Studio is a real-time glimpse into my unfiltered studio practice as a full-time artist.
The pretty, the messy and the back-sides of the projects that never make it out the door.

Nearly everyone inside has had the same experience of becoming more themselves when they actively include art and creativity in their lives. They can show up more grounded at work and more present with family and friends.

Live Studio Weekend; 19th–20th of September
The Petronella Art Studio is a place with a heartbeat where I regularly invite you into the practice in real time.
You show up as you are, with materials on your desk and leave the session having made something beautiful with your hands.
Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September, 15:00–17:00 CEST, both days.
(That's 9–11am New York time)
⭐ A date and a place to make your next Stitch Journal (and/or fill your pages), together.
REPLAYS available if you can’t make it on time.
Included for all Studio members: A no-scroll weekend, in a stream with other makers, from wherever you are.
Day one; we make a hybrid stitch journal from scratch. Hybrid means that it will include some pre-attached pages, some loose ones, sewn the way that suits a flexible and mobile practice.
Day two; We begin a page together, and I'll talk through composition, stitch techniques, and the storytelling approaches that make a journal feel like somewhere you want to return to.
You'll see me working on mine on screen, knowing that other makers around the world are working on theirs at the same moment.
Ask questions and share photos in the conversation beneath the video-stream. The comment field is open before, during, and long after. You can even post a picture of your work for feedback whenever you like, even weeks later.
You'll finish the weekend with a journal you've started, rather than one you're still planning.

The same goes for paid products. Platforms take cuts of the revenue, change their terms and build their spaces according to the general audience. But I never found something where I could fit it all in the way I intuitively want to connect with you.
That's why I eventually decided to build my own.
And since I also run a non-profit organisation bringing art education to children in rural South Africa, I decided to let a percentage of the revenue that would normally go to the platform company, go straight into the non-profit instead.

FAQ
What's the difference between the €49 ticket and membership?
The €49 ticket is this weekend: both days, the replays, and the conversation, yours permanently. Membership is everything else too — the courses, patterns, writing, community, and every live event that follows. If you start with the ticket and want the rest afterwards, the €49 comes off your first year.

I'm a complete beginner — is this for me?
Yes. Several courses start from your very first stitch, with nothing assumed and nothing you need to have made before. Most beginners start with Architectural Hand Embroidery for Beginners, then follow whatever pulls them.
Do I have to come to the live sessions?
No. Plenty of people won't, and that's fine. Replays gather in the Live tab inside the Studio, with the conversation still open beneath them — so you can watch whenever and still ask questions.
I have already purchased courses and/or patterns - does this mean I have to pay for them again?
No — and thank you for asking, because I want this to be completely clear.
Everything you have ever purchased stays yours, permanently, outside the Studio. Courses live at petronellaartacademy.com with your existing login. Patterns are in your email and in your account at petronellaart.com. None of that changes, now or ever.
The Studio is a different thing: the ongoing practice, the daily studio life, the writing, the live weekends, and the people doing it alongside you. The courses and patterns present in the archive are here as tools to serve the practice, making it more accessible.
How much time does this take?
As much or as little as you have. The Studio isn't designed to hold your attention — it's designed to send you off to make something. Four minutes and a spark is a perfectly good visit. For other days you may want to stick around a couple of hours to watch a livestream or course lectures, which is perfectly fine too.
Can I use The Petronella Art Studio on more than one device?
Yes, on as many as you like. Go to studio.petronellaart.com on any phone, tablet or computer, enter the email you joined with, and we'll send you a 6-digit code. There's no password to set up or remember.
On a phone or tablet you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app — there's a short how-to on the sign-in screen for both iPhone and Android. On a computer, bookmark it or install it from your browser's address bar.
Where does my money go?
Into making more of the work you came for and 10% goes directly to the Survive to Thrive non-profit, specifically the Flagship project that brings art classes to children in rural South Africa. You are able to follow the work first-hand under the Impact tab inside the Studio.
Is my payment safe?
Handled securely by Stripe. I never see or store your card details. Your account lives on secure servers in the EU.
How can I cancel?
Anytime, in two taps, from inside your account. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the time you've paid for. No emails, no hoops.
What if it isn't for me?
Membership: email me within 14 days of joining and I'll refund you, no questions. Weekend tickets: refundable up until the session begins.
